In the beginning, there wasn’t anything particularly charitable about the local business-networking group GETDOT.
“It stood for ‘Good Excuse To Drink On Thursdays,’ ” Chip Ramsey, one of the co-founders, said with a laugh. “We literally started with five or six people sitting around a bar, saying, ‘You ought to meet this person, that person.’ ”
Today, the group boasts more than 2,000 members, and its acronym has a loftier meaning: Good Excuse To Donate On Thursdays. Event attendees write checks, hand over cash and learn about the child-focused nonprofit organization that will benefit.
