Action for Children: A Closer Look

It’s not easy being a parent.

Children are one of the world’s grandest blessings. They are, as everyone articulates, the future. But they also require the very best of us to help them seize their potential.

And that’s where Action for Children (AFC) can make a difference.

Their mission is “to transform the lives of children in Central Ohio by supporting, empowering and advocating for the adults who make the biggest impact on children’s lives – their parents, caregivers, and teachers,” said Jennifer Patterson, the director of organizational advancement for AFC.

“Through innovative and comprehensive programs, AFC is the leading resource in our community for parent education and coaching services,” she said. “Children do not come with instructions, but AFC programs like Mothers Matter, New Beginnings for New Fathers, and The Art of Positive Parenting can help parents enhance their skills, find better balance, and create the loving and supportive family environments that we all need and deserve.”

AFC also works to lift up early-childhood educators and programs. They have enrichment programs for teachers and providers. This is done in support of a highly-qualified workforce for child care and teachers.

And when they come together with parents . . . kids thrive!

“In order for children to succeed in school and ultimately in life, they must be nurtured by strong families, qualified and compassionate educators, and vibrant communities. There are only 2,000 days from birth to school entry, so every day counts,” Patterson said. “By investing in parents and providers, we are investing in children, their futures and the community at large.”

She expressed AFC’s strong appreciation toward GETDOT.

“Action for Children’s dedicated staff, board and partners implement a broad range of services and programs that have an immediate impact on children and families in our community each and every day; but we cannot do it alone,” she said. “We rely on the generous support of a caring community of donors, supporters, funders and community agencies. AFC is grateful for the opportunity to once again partner with GETDOT’s broad and dynamic audience to bolster our shared vision of transforming the lives of children in the Central Ohio community. Together, we are creating positive and lasting change.”

The money raised at GETDOT’s August 2016 event will support AFC’s Parenting Workshops including Mothers Matter, Father Factor, New Beginnings for New Fathers and The Art of Positive Parenting.

“By participating in these programs, Central Ohio parents find new ways to strengthen their family ties, overcome the trials that all families face, balance their own needs with the needs of their children, and thrive together!” Patterson said.

Come on out to our GETDOWN event and take some action for children! Come to Gresso’s, 961 South High St, on the patio, Wednesday, August 24th starting at 5:00 p.m.!
